On behalf of Deborah and myself and the XY Falcon 4WD Owner’s Group we would like to say that Richard was passionate about his cars and also his four-legged friends. It showed in how well he looked after them.
He was a long time member of the XY Facon 4WD Owner’s Group, joining around 2004 and he attended most of the Easter weekend get-togethers.
He loved the 1970’s era, depicted in his cars and caravan and he was very interested in the items and details of this era, particularly Deb’s 1970’s Tupperware salt and pepper shakers and utensils.
Sadly, we will miss his company and presence at our Easter 4WD Group meetings.
Regards,
Glenn & Deb Walker.

I knew Daniel since the day he arrived at Woolwich. I also worked at Davis during the 1990/91 ANARE season.
On the first or second night there, we stayed up all night chatting about our lives and other AJ stuff. At some time in the early morning we fell asleep, however on awakening I looked at my watch and noticed that we were late. We had to rush down to the barge and made our way to the ship. Once secured I was approached by the OC of the detachment who gave us an addressing down and ordered us off the barge as he was under the assumption that we were both intoxicated. After explaining that we hadn’t been drinking and we were only talking all night until we fell asleep and only slept in. It fell on deaf ears as he didn’t believe us. He then assigned our next in command and tasked him to remove us from the barge but after a bit of back-and-forth discussion, we continued to off load the ship. After and long day we were approached by the OC with an apology when he had been informed by one of the expeditioners that I was telling the truth. Working with Danial we had a lot of laughs, and he certainly made an impact on many of our careers. On returning to Hobart, he somehow became attached to a little cocktail bar and made himself at home behind the bar which the owners didn’t seem too worried about. (Maybe they should have). He was making cocktails for all the Larcies & my wife Audrey. It was a big night, and definitely a night to be remembered. We had a quote “What happens in ANARE stays in ANARE. Work hard, play hard. No guts, no glory.
He had that flair about him that he was extremely funny with a sparkling persona.
Daniel will certainly be missed by all.
