Tribute

… In loving memory of … Maureen Agnes Cooney …

Our beloved Nan, Maureen Cooney, passed away peacefully on the 10th of August at the incredible age of 100.

Born in Lismore at Bonney Doon to Catherine and Dennis O’Neil, and raised on a dairy farm in Alstonville, Maureen lived a life full of faith, family, and service to her community. She worked as a nurse at St Vincent’s Hospital in Lismore, and together with her husband Brian Cooney (dec), raised a loving family.

She was mother to Helen (dec) and Brian Michael, grandmother to Katherine, and proud great-grandmother to Archie and Isla.

Maureen lived next door to St Carthage’s Primary School, where her deep Catholic faith guided her every day. She was a familiar and beloved face in the community, known especially for her tireless advocacy for disability services.

Her beach house in Lennox Head was a place of warmth and welcome, enjoyed by countless friends, family members, and visitors over the years — a reflection of her generous and kind spirit.

We ask you to please pray for Maureen as she begins her journey to heaven, where she will be joyfully reunited with loved ones who have gone before her.

If you have a special memory or photo of Nan, or knew her and would like to share a story, please comment below or feel free to send me a message. We would love to honour her legacy by remembering the many lives she touched.
