Geoffrey (Geoff) Brooks passed away peacefully, on his own terms, on 27 December 2023 at Lismore Base Hospital after many years of chronic lung disease.
Geoff is mourned by his wife, lover and best friend of over 42 years, Hilary Riggs.
He is also mourned by his father John Howard Brooks and his mother Dorothy Grace (nee Baldwin) Brooks (dec) together with his siblings Timothy (and wife Jane) Brooks, Andrew (and wife Cath) Brooks, Susan (dec) Whyborn (and husband Alan Whyborn.) Ken (and wife Marleene) Brooks.
Hilary’s siblings and their partners were also close to Geoff over the years.
Geoff had a wide circle of friends, colleagues, and acquaintances in Canberra, Ballina, Brisbane and beyond.
In particular, Lindsay Burgess and Geoff were life-long friends from school days.
A service to commemorate Geoff’s life will be held on 10 January 2024 at 10 am, Parkview Funeral Homes, 21 Kalinga St, Ballina.
Hilary would like to thank all the many marvellous caring and compassionate doctors, nurses, ambos and other professionals who took such good care of Geoff over the years.

Wish I had met him …. life is too short….and I wish comfort to Hilary and the family …
Geoff was a beautiful person with a great sense of humour a lovely combination of intellect courage and tolerance.
The relationship that he and Hilary shared was one to emulate for sure.

My dearest Hilary, unfortunately I cannot attend on Geoff’s service on Wednesday . I am sending you all my love and prayers. I pray that as your family and friends come together to farewell but celebrate Geoff’s life, you will also find comfort in their support and love for you as well. Take care my darling! Love Helen

Rest in Peace Geoff. I am a better person for having known you. My sincere condolences Hil.
Unfortunately we are unable to attend in person, but Hilary we will be watching through the live stream and will be beside you in spirit. A few words about your wonderful partner in life. Geoff Brooks was a generous, witty and thoughtful human and we were blessed to call him a friend.

It was a privilege being able to share in Geoff’s farewell and hear the stories of your exciting life together. I’m so pleased I had that opportunity to meet him at our reunion! He sounds like an extraordinary man and I’m glad you had all those years of companionship together although I know you would have wanted it be many more!
